Domain Control Validation (DCV) helps prevent unauthorized issuance of SSL certificates. Without it, SSL activation is not possible. This guide covers the DCV process and shows you how to complete it in several ways. Use the DCV method to obtain SSL certificates that best suit your skills and situation.

What is Domain Control Verification (DCV)?
Domain Control Validation is one of the checks that CAs perform to ensure that the person applying for an SSL certificate owns or has administrative rights to the domain. Every applicant must pass DCV before receiving an SSL certificate from a CA. It does not require any paperwork and the process is very simple.
What are DCV methods?
To verify that you have administrative access to the domain you want to encrypt, CAs provide three DCV methods. We'll look at them in detail.
1. Checking email
The most popular and easiest way to verify an SSL mobile app development service certificate is via email. The CA will send you an approval email to your WHOIS or domain email address with a verification code. Open the link in the email and paste the verification code to pass DCV. The entire process is automated, and it will take less than 5 minutes to receive a Domain Validation certificate.
Only specific domain or your contact email addresses from WOIS can be used for the DCV email method. The problem with the WHOIS email is that it is usually hidden for privacy reasons and CAs cannot see it. If you do not know your WHOIS email address, check your domain control panel or contact your domain registrar.
Alternatively, use one of the following domain-based pre-approved emails:
Didn't receive a confirmation email? Here's what to do:
Check your spam and junk folder. Email filters may mistakenly mark a CA email as spam.
Double check your email address. Make sure it is valid and there are no typos.
Please resend your letter.
If nothing helps, contact your SSL provider for support.
I chose a non-existent email address...
If you have chosen a non-existent email address, do not panic. Inexperienced administrators may enter an email address based on a domain that has not yet been created. The solution is simple:
Go to your hosting control panel and create an email address based on the domain you provided for verification.
Please resend the approval email.
Important: As of June 16, 2021, Sectigo will no longer accept WHOIS-based email addresses for Domain Control Verification (DCV).
